Karl develops tools written in APL. He is also involved with migration to Dyalog from other APL systems.
Karl’s excitement for coding started in school, where he specialised in mathematics and physics. For these courses, his school used a program called Maple , which has its own maths-inspired language. This helped to shape Karl’s understanding of programming, as he could build functions that would give him an answer instantly instead of having to spend time performing calculations with a pen and paper.
When deciding which subject to study at university, Karl was conflicted between mathematics and computer science, but decided to choose computer science based on the reputaion of the course at his chosen university (Aalborg university). At university, he was able to combine theory-heavy classes with projects in which he could use programming to implement the theory he learned. He moved to Aarhus university for a Master’s degree, but decided not to continue with it after discovering the University’s old fashioned practices. Instead, after a short job search, he found a role with Dyalog Ltd. As a perfectionist who always searches for the best solutions, Karl finds working with APL is a recipe for both immense work/life satisfaction and disaster! Karl is a mix between an introvert and an extrovert – he is comfortable being the life of the party or sitting in a corner playing chess.
