Role Summary

John Morley Scholes (1948–2019) was the lead developer of Dyalog APL in 1981, and a prominent APL designer, teacher, and promoter throughout the rest of his life. He designed and implemented dfns, which have been adopted in numerous recent APL dialects, and maintained the dfns workspace demonstrating their use. He is also known for presentations and papers, in many cases of a whimsical or humorous nature, relating to APL. His 2009 video on implementing Conway’s Game of Life has been widely viewed and introduced many APLers to the language.

Meet the Dyalog Team

We promote a culture where innovation, fun, pride, and acceptance is part of our daily life. We come from a variety of backgrounds, and our diversity enhances our creativity.

We’re a small team spread across half a dozen countries, united by a shared belief that powerful software doesn’t have to be complicated. A lot of us have been here for years, some for decades, because there’s still no shortage of interesting problems to solve.
