Welcome to Glasgow and to Dyalog ’16 – this year’s annual Dyalog user meeting, which is taking place at the Golden Jubilee Hotel on the banks of the River Clyde.
Whether you are attending in Glasgow or following from afar, we hope to give you a taste of what is going on from the perspective of both Dyalog and the guests, and also to share a little bit of what is going on behind the scenes to make it all happen. To that end we will have two series of daily blogs published here on the Dyalog website – the Dyalog team will write about some of the presentations they are giving and the activities that are taking place, whilst Vibeke will write about some of the customer and guest presentations and user feedback.
This is the first Dyalog user meeting to take place in Scotland and we hope those of you attending will have a chance to explore some of this beautiful country, as well as enjoy the facilities on offer at the venue itself. Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland and the fourth largest in the United Kingdom, situated in the country’s western lowlands.
Most of Team Dyalog has now arrived and we are really looking forward to sharing with you the things that we’ve been working on since Dyalog ’15 in Sicily. In addition, we have some exciting presentations from users and invited guests, many of whom are new to the Dyalog community. All of the presentations will be recorded and made available at dyalog.tv.
Coming up…
The user meeting starts and ends with technical workshops, with three and a half days of presentations between. This year, the last day and a half will be a celebration of 50 years of APL, with a look at some of the milestones in the development of the language, and why it is so well positioned for still greater things in the future. In addition, we have a mix of activities planned throughout – from the informal “birds of a feather” discussion forums, to whisky and chocolate tasting, the banquet dinner on Wednesday, and the opportunity to try out Tomas Gustafsson’s amazing Stormwind simulator. So do check back regularly for the two daily reports. It’s promising to be a rewarding few days!
